The True Benefits of Integrated 3D (BIM) Software

Presenter: Joseph Vance, AIA, Owner, Joseph Vance Architects

Overview: Architecture and design firms are being pressured to convert to BIM (Building Information Modeling) software. Unfortunately, most get lost in the hype and do not think it is for them. Though most firms do not need the complexity of “full BIM,” they do all need to understand the profound benefits of producing projects in integrated 3D software. Joseph Vance Architects uses integrated 3D software (BIM) for every aspect of their projects from schematic design through construction administration. They have nearly 30 years of proof that this reduces workflow inefficiencies, allows more time for design refinement, enables clients to be more intimately involved in the design process, and increases firm profitability. Joseph Vance walks through the process he has developed for producing architectural projects from design through construction in integrated 3D software.

When Joseph Vance started his architectural practice nearly 30 years ago, he had no employees and had never used CAD of any type. He did, however, own a copy of an early version of BIM software. He delved into it and found himself developing an entirely new way of designing architectural projects and producing construction documents, one that set the course his firm that continues today.
