About:
This course is about health benefits of natural wood in the built environment.

HSW Justification:
The course covers biophilic design and how wood improves indoor air quality, overall health, better sleep, and stress reduction. Additionally, we will discuss the sustainability of wood and its role in carbon sequestration. Finally, we will outline the benefits of manufacturing without harmful chemicals.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the role of hardwoods in biophilic design and its effect on the health and welfare of those who occupy our built spaces.
  • Understand the importance of wood flooring certification using the highest standards for sustainability and ecological biodiversity.
  • Discuss how natural wood floors can be easily maintained without the use of plastic finishes that can contain hazardous chemicals.
  • Explain how natural wood flooring sequesters carbon for generations to come.
  • Explain the basics of wood movement and how appropriate installation and humidity determine the lifespan of nature.
